RECIPROCAL ADMISSION FOR ATTORNEYS ADMITTED
IN NEW HAMPSHIRE PURSUANT TO
MAINE BAR ADMISSION RULE 11A
QUALIFICATIONS:
In order to be qualified for reciprocal admission pursuant
to Maine Bar Admission Rule 11A, applicants must meet ALL of the
following criteria:
- Applicants must be licensed to practice law in either New
Hampshire or Vermont [see M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(1)(A) and 11A(a)(1)(B)]
and have been primarily engaged in the active practice of law
in that jurisdiction (either New Hampshire or Vermont) for at
least three (3) years prior to the date of application [see M.B.A.R.
11A(a)(2)(A) and 11A(a)(2)(B)].
- Applicants must have graduated from a law school approved
by the American Bar Association meeting the criteria listed in
M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(3).
- Applicants must be a member in good standing in all jurisdictions
where admitted [see M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(6)].
- Applicants must not have failed the Maine Bar Examination
within five (5) years of the date of application and must not
have resigned, been disbarred or suspended from the Maine bar
[see M.B.A.R. 11A(b)].
In addition to the above criteria, before an applicant can
be certified for reciprocal admission pursuant to M.B.A.R. 11A,
they must:
- Satisfactorily complete the Multistate Professional Responsibility
Examination in accordance with M.B.A.R. 11 [see M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(4)].
- Produce satisfactory evidence of good moral character pursuant
to M.B.A.R. 9 [see M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(7) and M.B.A.R. 11A(c)].
- Produce evidence that they have completed at least fifteen
(15) hours of continuing legal education in Maine practice and
procedure in courses approved by the Maine Board of Overseers
of the Bar. Please note that this requirement must be completed
within one year of the date of application. [See M.B.A.R. 11A(a)(8)].
